ALGIERS – Algeria’s rich cultural heritage took center stage at the 28th International Handicrafts Fair, “Artigiano in Fiera,” held in Milan, Italy. Minister of Tourism and Handicrafts, Houria Meddahi, chaired the opening of Algeria’s official pavilion on Saturday, marking the country’s distinguished role as the Guest of Honor for the African continent. The event brought together officials from both Algeria and Italy, including Algeria’s Ambassador to Rome, the Consul General in Milan, and Italian Minister of Tourism, Daniela Santanchè, as well as Minister of Education, Giuseppe Valditara.

In her opening speech, Minister Meddahi expressed Algeria’s pride in being honored as Africa’s Guest of Honor, reinforcing the country’s commitment to strengthening historical ties with Italy and expanding bilateral cooperation in cultural and economic sectors. The Algerian pavilion featured over 80 artisans, presenting a wide range of crafts including intricate ceramics, textiles, fine jewelry, and woodwork. These artisans represent Algeria’s deep artistic traditions and modern creativity, serving as cultural ambassadors of the nation. In addition to the crafts, Algeria’s tourism sector was prominently featured, highlighting the country’s unique Saharan adventures, coastal escapes, and thermal spas.

Minister Meddahi also attended the inauguration of Saudi Arabia’s pavilion, which was the Guest of Honor for the Middle East, marking another milestone in global cultural cooperation. She invited representatives from over 100 participating countries to explore Algeria’s pavilion, where the nation’s beauty, diversity, and cultural richness are on full display.

This year’s exhibition marks Algeria’s sixth consecutive participation, reaffirming the country’s role as a cultural and economic bridge between Africa and Europe. Algeria continues to strengthen its ties with Italy and the broader international community, offering visitors a glimpse into the transformative power of its traditional crafts and its ongoing commitment to cultural exchange.
