ALGIERS — Noureddine Yassaa, Secretary of State to the Algerian Minister of Energy, in charge of Renewable Energy, represented Algeria at the 27th Africa Energy Forum held in Cape Town, South Africa. He showcased Algeria’s sustainable energy strategy and investment opportunities, according to a statement from the Ministry of Energy, Mines, and Renewable Energy.

Yassaa participated in a closed-door roundtable titled “Speeding Up Project Implementation: Synergy Between Public and Private Sectors,” attended by the African Union (AU) Commissioner for Infrastructure and Energy, African energy ministers, and representatives from major companies and international financial institutions, including the African Development Bank (AfDB), the International Finance Corporation (IFC), and the World Bank (WB), as well as leading energy firms.

The roundtable explored ways to enhance cooperation between governments and private sector stakeholders to accelerate the development, financing, and implementation of energy projects, with a focus on renewables, green hydrogen, expanded access to electricity, and energy transition to promote sustainable development, regional integration, and energy security in Africa.

Yassaa also outlined the key pillars of Algeria’s sustainable energy strategy and highlighted investment opportunities, emphasizing Algeria’s commitment to playing a pivotal role in public-private partnerships across Africa.

On the sidelines of the forum, Yassaa held bilateral discussions with South Africa’s Minister of Electricity and Energy, Kgosientso Ramokgopa. The talks centered on strengthening cooperation in renewable energy, including the exchange of technical expertise, training, and joint high-value projects, as well as exploring innovative financing mechanisms to support the energy transition.

During the meeting, Algeria formally expressed its interest in joining the Africa Green Hydrogen Alliance (AGHA), chaired by South Africa. This strategic initiative aims to unite African countries’ efforts to develop green hydrogen as a lever for decarbonization, energy sovereignty, and sustainable development.
