Algeria-Serbia Talks to Expand Cooperation in Hydrocarbons, Mining, Natural Gas

The Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, held talks on Tuesday in Algiers with the Serbian Minister without portfolio in charge of International Economic Cooperation and Vice-President of the Algerian-Serbian Joint Commission, Nenad Popovic, during which both sides explored ways to boost bilateral cooperation in hydrocarbons, mining and industrial investment, according to a ministry statement.

The meeting was attended by the Secretary of State to the Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines in charge of Mines, Karima Bekir Tafer, along with officials from both sides, as part of the Serbian Prime Minister, Macut Duro’s official to Algeria, leading a high-level delegation. During the discussions, both parties welcomed the strong historical friendship ties uniting Algeria and Serbia, reaffirming their shared will to strengthen economic cooperation in line with the privileged bilateral relations. The two officials also underlined the positive momentum characterizing bilateral ties, notably through mutual visits.

The exchanges centered on partnership opportunities in the fields of oil, gas and processing industries, as well as in digitalization, engineering and equipment manufacturing, in addition to boosting commercial relations between companies, particularly in the field of natural gas marketing. The two parties also reviewed the possibilities of cooperation in the exploitation and processing of mineral resources in Algeria, as well as in geological studies, emphasizing the interest of leveraging Serbia’s expertise in these fields, particularly in the fertilizer industry, as well as sharing expertise in technologies and modern techniques used in the mining industry.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both ministers reaffirmed their willingness to give fresh impetus to the Algeria-Serbia partnership, particularly in economic sectors of mutual interest.
