Algeria, Saudi Arabia Discuss Strengthening Bilateral Energy Cooperation

On the sidelines of the 21st General Conference of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia from November 23 to 27, 2025, Algeria’s State Minister, Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, met on Monday, with Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Energy, Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman. The meeting was attended by the Algerian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia and officials from both countries, the Algerian Ministry of Hydrocarbons and Mines reported.

During the talks, both Algeria and Saudi Arabia reaffirmed the depth of their historical relations and expressed a shared desire to enhance bilateral cooperation in the hydrocarbons and mining sectors.

The ministers also reviewed opportunities for cooperation and promising prospects in hydrocarbon exploration and development, the petrochemical industry, and the development of clean hydrogen. They emphasized the importance of strengthening industrial and investment partnerships between Algerian and Saudi companies, notably between Sonatrach on the Algerian side and Aramco, the ACWA Power Group, and others on the Saudi side.

Additionally, the discussions addressed strategic priorities for both Algeria and Saudi Arabia, including enhancing local content in energy value chains, knowledge exchange and technology transfer, developing training and education programs in the oil industry, and intensifying research and innovation.

In this context, Minister Arkab stressed Algeria’s commitment to implementing genuine energy transition projects aimed at reducing the carbon footprint in the oil and gas sector.
