The Algerian Minister of Trade and Export Promotion, Tayeb Zitouni, announced a surplus in the trade balance amounting to 3.75 billion US dollars.
During the inauguration of the new members of the Foreign Trade Monitoring Committee, Tayeb Zitouni stated that imports amounted to 26.62 billion dollars, while exports were valued at 30.36 billion dollars.
A statement from the Algerian Ministry of Trade mentioned that the installation of the new members of the Foreign Trade Monitoring Committee comes as part of continuous efforts to enhance the performance of the trade sector and achieve economic growth objectives. Zitouni emphasized that “the activation of this committee is part of a series of measures taken by the trade sector, in coordination with the concerned sectors, aiming to regulate foreign trade and achieve a balance by promoting non-hydrocarbon exports and controlling imports to protect national production.”
The minister stressed “the necessity of activating economic vigilance and directing foreign trade policy in a way that serves Algeria’s interests, especially in light of the geopolitical and strategic challenges facing the global economy.”
The tasks of the committee members, representing 16 ministerial sectors and 12 official bodies, during a three-year renewable term, include monitoring and analyzing trade exchange flows (exports and imports), proposing measures to reform and regulate foreign trade activities, as well as periodically evaluating foreign trade data and proposing new measures related to rationalizing imports and promoting non-hydrocarbon exports.
