Algeria Reaffirms Support for African-Led Resolution to DRC Crisis

Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, participated on Monday in a ministerial meeting of the African Union’s Peace and Security Council, held via videoconference.

The meeting was dedicated to discussing the serious developments in the eastern region of the Democratic Republic of Congo and exploring ways to strengthen the African Union’s role and contribution in promoting a peaceful resolution to this crisis, the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

In his speech during the meeting, Attaf emphasized the need to direct the African Union’s efforts toward three urgent priorities: first, the implementation and consolidation of the ceasefire; second, the strengthening of political and diplomatic efforts among the conflicting parties; and third, focusing on addressing the root causes of the conflict, according to the statement.

In conclusion, Minister Ahmed Attaf affirmed that Algeria will remain steadfast in its commitment to supporting an African-led resolution to this crisis, based on inclusive dialogue and full respect for the principles set out in the United Nations Charter and the Constitutive Act of the African Union, the source added.
