Algeria Reaffirms Steadfast Commitment to Multilateral Efforts Against Emerging Global Challenges

The Secretary-General of the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lounes Magramane, emphasized that Algeria’s official signing of the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime underscores its steadfast commitment to multilateralism and international cooperation as an effective tool to address emerging global challenges.
In a speech he delivered as part of his participation in the signing ceremony held in the Vietnamese capital Hanoi on October 25–26, Magramane praised Algeria’s role in chairing the committee responsible for preparing this convention, which “provides a binding legal framework for collective responses to the multifaceted risks associated with cybercrime, as it calls for the establishment of mechanisms to adapt traditional criminal investigations to the information technology environment, in addition to creating a global mechanism for the exchange of electronic evidence related to serious crimes,” the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
While reviewing Algeria’s efforts at the national level, Magramane highlighted the priority that the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, places on digital transformation, making it a central focus of Algeria’s agenda through the adoption of an ambitious strategy in this field, the statement said.
On this occasion, the organizers praised Algeria’s role and its tireless efforts, particularly those of Ambassador Faouzia Mebarki, in leading the negotiation process over four years through chairing the committee responsible for drafting the text of this convention, which culminated in its adoption by the United Nations and the opening of the signing ceremony in Hanoi.
“The adoption of this convention adds to the record of successes achieved by Algerian diplomacy in recent years, under the leadership of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune,” the statement concluded.
