ALGIERS – Algerian Minister of Justice, Lotfi Boudjemaa, reaffirmed on Wednesday Algeria’s constant commitment to updating its national legislation in the fight against all forms of criminality, with a view to adapting it to developments and ensuring they comply with the international conventions ratified by the country.
After adopting by the deputies of the People’s National Assembly of the bill on the prevention of money laundering and terrorism financing, as well as the bill on the protection of natural persons in the processing of personal data, the minister emphasized “Algeria’s determination to fight against all forms of crime through legal mechanisms responding to national developments and adapted to the conventions it has ratified.”
These two texts fall within the framework of “the implementation of the approach of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, aimed at establishing legal mechanisms capable of protecting our country against different forms of crime,” he said.
Regarding the first text, the minister said that the provisions it contains “will come to reinforce the national mechanisms of prevention against the crimes of money laundering, terrorism financing and proliferation of weapons of mass destruction,” while ensuring “the efficiency of our financial system.”
As for the law on the protection of natural persons in the processing of personal data, it will help, according to the minister, “ensure sufficient guarantees for the protection of this data,” and to “activate international judicial cooperation, both on the security and judicial levels.”
Furthermore, the plenary session concluded with the adoption of the list of vice-presidents of the People’s National Assembly for the fifth year of the ninth legislature.
In this regard, the Lower House’s Speaker, Brahim Boughali, welcomed “the fraternal atmosphere that marked the process of renewing the structures” and expressed his gratitude toward the outgoing deputies after an entire year of intense activity.
