Algeria Qualifies for 2026 Women AFCON Finals

The Algerian women’s football team has secured a spot in the 2026 Africa Cup of Nations finals (AFCON 2026), following a 1-0 victory over Cameroon on Tuesday at Douala’s Reunification Stadium.
The match, part of the second and final round of qualifiers, was played behind closed doors. On a waterlogged pitch, the Algerian squad began the match with practicality and determination, which allowed them to net the only goal of the game in the 25th minute, courtesy of Marine Dafeur. In the second half, the Cameroonian team poured everything into trying to overturn the deficit, however they failed to reckon with the determination and drive of the “Greens,” who maintained their lead until the final whistle. In the 1st leg, the national team secured a 2-1 victory.
The Algerian women had advanced to the second and final qualifying round after defeating South Sudan in February, winning both matches 5-0 in the 1st leg and 3-0 in the 2nd leg. With this victory, Algeria has qualified for the AFCON finals for the 7th time in its history. The 2026 competition is set to take place from March 17th to April 3rd.
