Algeria Pushes to Elevate Ties With Vietnam to Strategic Partnership

ALGIERS, Nov 19, 2025 – The Algerian Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb emphasized Wednesday in Algiers Algeria’s commitment to elevating its relations with the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to the level of a strategic partnership, supported by the “exceptional” momentum currently characterizing the economies of both countries.
Ghrieb made these remarks during an expanded meeting with the Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Pham Minh Chinh, held at the Abdelatif-Rahal International Conference Center (CIC), in the presence of delegations from both countries.
On this occasion, the Prime Minister highlighted “Algeria’s commitment, under the leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to work closely with the Vietnamese government to promote this cooperation to the level of a strategic partnership.”
He called for capitalizing on the “exceptional momentum” experienced by the two economies to consolidate the foundations of this partnership, strengthen exchanges between business leaders and companies in both countries, and open new prospects for mutually beneficial cooperation.
Recalling the historical depth of relations between the two countries, united by a common struggle for freedom, Ghrieb noted that the fight of the Algerian and Vietnamese peoples for independence demonstrated that the will of the people is invincible.
Expressing Algeria’s satisfaction with the current level of bilateral cooperation, the Prime Minister said this “encourages us to raise our ambitions in order to build a fruitful and more diversified partnership, an objective we will pursue through the adoption of a Strategic Partnership Declaration between the two countries.”
He explained that this step will open promising prospects for the promotion of bilateral relations and for strengthening cooperation in all areas, including the economy, which “offers major opportunities for integration and for leveraging the strengths of both sides in the service of shared prosperity.”
The Prime Minister called on Vietnamese companies to seize the opportunities created by Algeria’s major economic reforms, with a view to launching partnership and investment projects while benefiting from Algeria’s favorable business climate.
He also welcomed the “important results” achieved during the 13th session of the Algerian–Vietnamese Joint Commission, held Sunday and Monday in Algiers, stressing the importance of accelerating efforts to implement its recommendations, notably by establishing a roadmap defining concrete actions and implementation deadlines.
The expanded meeting took place in the presence of the Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, the National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, the Minister of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion, Kamel Rezig, the Minister of Housing, Urban Planning, the City, and Regional Development, Mohamed Tarek Belaribi, the Minister of Mujahideen and Rights Holders, Abdelmalek Tacherift, and the Minister of Finance, Abdelkrim Bouzred.
The Vietnamese Prime Minister arrived in Algiers on Tuesday for an official visit that will continue until Thursday.
This visit is part of efforts to strengthen the ties of friendship and cooperation between the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, as well as to promote bilateral partnership in various areas of shared interest.
