Algerian President, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the Chairman of Supreme Judicial Council, underlined Sunday, in an address at the opening of the 2025-2026 judicial year, the reforms undertaken in the sector of justice, describing the opening of the judicial year as an opportunity to assess the achievements that have been accomplished.
For the Algerian President, the opening of the judicial year is “an opportunity to assess the achievements of the judicial institution, made possible by reforms that we have undertaken for an independent, ethical, and effective justice system, grounded in the rule of law and focused on building trust, ensuring the security of people and property, and establishing a legal framework adapted to the country’s economic goals, particularly encouraging investment and fostering an environment of peace and stability.” Convinced of the “vital role” of magistrates, the President of the Republic affirmed that he is “constantly insisting, in his directives to the Government, on the necessity of provding optimal care for justice sector personnel and continuing efforts to uphold judicial integrity while improving quality and efficiency.” He stressed the importance of “meeting the everyday needs of magistrates so they can fully dedicate themselves to their duties.”
President Tebboune also emphasized the importance of enshrining the principle of defense and the presumption of innocence as “fundamental guarantees of a fair trial and protection against abuse.” He underlined that “genuine justice is built on equity, bringing closer and positive interaction with citizens, improved services, and a firm and rigorous fight against all forms of corruption and crime that threaten our social fabric.” In this respect, the Algerian President praised the “progress the sector has made in transitioning to a digital justice system,” pointing out that “skilled and qualified human resources are essential to embody the principle of independence, which depends on individual commitment to establishing a justice system that reassures citizens, is accessible to them, and simplifies procedures.”
The algerian President commended the magistrates who “carry out their noble duties guided by moral values, knowledge, and integrity, and who are committed to the duty of discretion and prudence required by their distinguished position in society.” These magistrates, he said, “bring honor to the justice sector, which has made significant strides toward the modernization and establishment of contemporary working practices.” According to him, these accomplishments “contribute to improving the business environment in our country, which is currently undergoing a promising economic transformation, and encouraging economic companies to prosper, thanks to the justice sector’s effective support.”
After expressing his hopes for continued progress in the sector, the Algerian President reiterated “his strong commitment to mobilizing and providing all necessary human and material resources to ensure an independent and ethical justice system that inspires public trust and upholds the rule of law, out of loyalty to the courageous Algerian people and their honored martyrs.” President Tebboune concluded his address by announcing that the judicial statute will be promulgated before the end of 2025.
