Algeria Praises Remarkable Progress in Arab–Indian Partnership

The Secretary General of the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lounès Magramane, led the Algerian delegation participating in the 2nd Ministerial Meeting of the Arab-Indian Cooperation Forum, held in the Indian capital, New Delhi, on January 30th – 31st, according to a statement by the Ministry on Saturday.
Prior to the opening of the forum, the Secretary-General held a meeting with the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as part of the welcoming ceremonies organized by the latter in honor of the heads of the participating Arab delegations.
On this occasion, Magramane emphasized “Algeria’s willingness to strengthen cooperation with India, particularly in the pharmaceutical industry, and to facilitate the transfer of Indian expertise and technology,” according to the source.
The session provided an opportunity to review the current state of Arab-Indian relations and to discuss issues of mutual interest, with a view to advancing them toward broader horizons within a strategic vision that seeks to integrate economic, political, and cultural dimensions into comprehensive and integrated cooperation, the statement added.
In his address at the forum’s opening session, the Secretary General commended “the remarkable progress witnessed in the Arab-Indian partnership in recent years, both in terms of the frequency of political meetings and the diversity of cooperation fields.” He also underscored “the pressing need of adopting a realistic and responsible approach in assessing what has been achieved since the launch of the Arab-Indian partnership in 2008.” He further emphasized “the need to give greater attention to the political dimension of both the Arab and Indian sides within a regular framework for consultation on regional and international issues of common interest, foremost among them the Palestinian cause, which remains fundamental for Algeria, in addition to matters of regional security, combating terrorism, violent extremism, and hate speech.”
Magramane took the opportunity during this meeting to praise the distinctive nature of the Algerian-Indian relations, noting their long-standing history and multifaceted dimensions, which are reflected in India’s support for the Algerian people’s struggle against colonialism and in the alignment of their positions within “the Non-Aligned Movement” and “the Group of 77,” defending national sovereignty and the peoples’ right to self-determination.
Magramane also praised the qualitative leap in the Algerian-Indian relations across numerous fields, reflecting the shared commitment of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune and his Indian counterpart, Droupadi Murmu, particularly following her visit to Algeria in October 2024, which marked a new milestone in the process of intensifying and diversifying the bilateral strategic partnership between the two friendly countries.
