Algeria Pledges to Advocate Arab Causes at UN Security Council

Algeria reaffirmed its commitment today, Thursday, from New York, through its Foreign Minister, Ahmed Attaf, to champion Arab causes within the United Nations Security Council.

During his address at a high-level interactive dialogue session between the Security Council and the Arab League, Minister Attaf stated that Algeria, “as the Arab member of the Council, has consistently worked to amplify a strong Arab voice—one that thoroughly considers the realities and aspirations of the Arab region and steadfastly defends its just causes.”

The minister further expressed Algeria’s support for enhancing dialogue between the Security Council and the Arab League, as well as strengthening their cooperation to bolster collective efforts aimed at promoting peace, security, and stability in the Arab region.

Emphasizing the central importance of the Palestinian cause, Attaf underscored the necessity of placing it at the heart of the partnership between the Arab League and the Security Council. He condemned the Zionist escalation in the region, which seeks to divert international attention from the ongoing genocide in Gaza.

He highlighted the need to address this escalation while maintaining focus on ending the tragedy in Gaza, stating, “Just as the escalation began in Gaza, the de-escalation must also commence there, by enforcing an immediate, permanent, and comprehensive ceasefire.”

Attaf called for the integration of ceasefire priorities and the improvement of the humanitarian situation in Gaza with the imperative of achieving a just and lasting resolution to the Palestinian issue. He stressed the importance of expediting the convening of an international peace conference under the auspices of the United Nations as soon as possible.

In conclusion, the minister warned that the severe developments occurring in the region due to Zionist aggression and escalating tensions are not merely the result of localized conflicts; rather, they are part of a broader scheme aimed at resurrecting the concept of “Greater Israel.” This plan involves the displacement of Palestinians from Gaza and the West Bank, the rejection of the two-state solution, the imposition of a suffocating blockade on the Palestinian Authority, and the acceleration of settlement activities in East Jerusalem and the West Bank.
