Algeria Plays a Key Role in Strengthening Cooperation Between Africa and Europe (Ambassador)

ALGIERS, 3 Dec 2025 – The ambassador of the European Union (EU) Mission in Algeria, Diego Mellado, praised on Wednesday Algeria’s key role in strengthening cooperation between Africa and Europe in several fields, particularly the economic sector.
Speaking on the sidelines of a reforestation campaign held in the Baïnem forest (Algiers), organized by the EU Mission in Algeria in cooperation with representatives of the African Union (AU) and the General Directorate of Forestry (DGF), Mellado stressed that Algeria “is an essential bridge linking Europe and Africa to work toward improving the situation of both continents and boosting industrial development and economic diversification.”
“Algeria is a Mediterranean, African and Arab partner, and it represents a crucial gateway for cooperation with Africa in the areas of infrastructure, trade, investment, energy, politics, security, migration, and more,” he added, affirming the EU’s willingness to strengthen its partnership with Algeria in the field of economic diversification and continue working toward shared goals.
The ambassador also emphasized that Algeria’s tourism sector “holds very significant assets and exceptional opportunities that favor its development.”
For his part, the Director General of Forestry, Djamel Touahria, highlighted the importance of this initiative for protecting plant cover and stressed the need to intensify awareness efforts on these activities among younger generations.
The event was attended by representatives of the EU and AU in Algeria, as well as ambassadors from several European and Arab countries.
