Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune said Wednesday that Algeria places the African cooperation at the heart of its foreign policy, emphasizing that the continent’s abundant natural resources represent a genuine driver of sustainable economic and social development, provided they are properly managed and utilized.
The President of the Republic, in an address to participants at the International Mining, Quarries and Hydrocarbons Conference and Exhibition “SEMICA Chad 2026” held in the Chadian capital, N’Djamena, and read on his behalf by the Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines Mohamed Arkab, emphasized that despite Africa’s vast natural resources, particularly in hydrocarbons and strategic minerals, the continent faces a fundamental challenge: transforming these resources into tangible added value that creates jobs and meets the aspirations of African peoples. He called for the adoption of comprehensive development approaches that strengthen continental economic integration.
He also stressed the need to establish effective governance in the extractive industries sector, based on technology transfer, knowledge localization, respect for environmental standards, and enhancement of local content, while encouraging responsible investment and balanced partnerships that deliver mutual benefit among African nations.
Reaffirming Algeria’s continental commitment, the President underscored that Algeria, “faithful to the principles of African solidarity, remains convinced that continental cooperation founded on mutual respect and shared interests” will enable the continent to leverage its potential wisely and effectively in service of its peoples, who aspire to greater development and a dignified life.
He further affirmed Algeria’s conviction that Africa’s path toward unity and prosperity lies in strengthening economic cooperation that respects each state’s sovereignty and advances the creation of local value.
Algeria remains committed to “African cooperation built on solidarity, knowledge sharing, technology exchange, and capacity building at the local level,” the President of the Republic said, noting that the shift toward industrialization and resource valorization constitutes a fundamental pillar for achieving inclusive sustainable development and reinforcing African states’ sovereignty over their natural wealth.
He added that Algeria, “mindful of its historical commitment, remains, as always, ready to share its expertise and support the Republic of Chad’s efforts in structuring and developing its strategic sectors through practical, results-oriented cooperation that delivers tangible economic outcomes, serving as a true expression of our aspirations to consolidate the framework of South-South partnership.” President Tebboune commended the Republic of Chad’s sustained efforts and strategic vision in advancing its hydrocarbons and mining sectors, adding that the country is steadily progressing in developing its natural resources and fostering a favorable climate for investment and partnership.
Regarding the exhibition in which Algeria participates as guest of honor, the President noted that it represents a continental platform showcasing Chad’s developmental potential, adding that Algeria’s participation reaffirms its African commitment and its resolve to actively contribute to supporting the continent’s economic development.
Algeria’s presence at this economic event, the President continued, “reflects its dedication to the positive dynamic characterizing Algerian-Chadian relations, which were further strengthened by the distinguished participation of His Excellency the President of Chad at the fourth Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF) hosted by Algeria in September 2025, a significant milestone in advancing political dialogue and economic cooperation between our two brotherly nations.” He expressed Algeria’s confidence that bilateral cooperation, rooted in historical foundations and fraternal ties, can today experience renewed momentum through concrete projects yielding shared benefits, particularly given Algeria’s expertise in hydrocarbons, mining, energy, and professional training, all of which reinforce African integration.
