Algeria, Pioneering Model in Legislation with International Dimension

ALGIERS- Algerian Minister of Relations with the Parliament, Kaouter Krikou, affirmed that Algeria stands as a pioneering model in legislative experience with an international dimension, based on its commitment to harmonizing its national legislation and international commitments with the Constitution.
In a speech delivered during the study day on “National laws with international dimensions,” organized by the Ministry of Relations with Parliament, Krikou said that “Algeria’s commitment to harmonize its national legislation and international commitments, in accordance with the provisions of the country’s fundamental law, makes it a pioneering model in legislative experience with an international dimension, in line with all developments.”
Emphasizing that “the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, has introduced several reforms, starting with the Constitution of November 2020, in various political, social, economic, and legislative domains,” the minister underlined “the promulgation of more than 72 legislative texts during the ninth legislature, thus illustrating the institutional harmonization regarding the updating of achievements to keep pace with national and international developments, in service of the general interest.”
The minister highlighted “the existing complementarity between the legislative and executive powers in establishing the legal foundations framing all areas of life, in accordance with national societal constants and in compliance with international commitments.”
Krikou praised the professionalism of the valiant members of the People’s National Army and all security forces, as well as their unreserved dedication in the face of all “vain attempts to destabilize the developmental path of our country, as they are convinced of the vigilance of the Algerian people determined to progress on the path of renaissance initiated by the President of the Republic since his accession to the highest office of the country, and this, in all fields, particularly the legislative aspect, through the adaptation of our legal system to current developments and the imperatives of modernization.”
For his part, the Minister of Communication, Mohamed Meziane, affirmed that “Algerian legislation governing the information and communication sector is among the most important legislation on rights and freedoms that guarantee the free practice of media activity with respect for legal rules in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution and international treaties, ratified by Algeria, particularly those related to human rights, providing for the imperative to guarantee the right to freedom of expression while respecting the provisions relating to the text of law, public order, national security and public morals as well as the protection of the rights and freedoms of others.”
To this end, the minister said that the framework governing media activity “must be based on the principles of freedom and responsibility,” emphasizing the importance of “regulating the practice of media activity in a way that enshrines the right of citizens to objective, credible and reliable information.”
