Algeria Participates in Future Minerals Forum in Riyadh

The Secretary of State to the Algerian Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, in charge of Mines, Karima Bakir Tafer, is participating from 13 to 15 January in the 5th Future Minerals Forum (FMF), being held in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, according to a ministerial statement.

The Algerian delegation participating in the meeting includes the director of the managing committee of the Algerian Geological Survey Agency Karim Mokhtar, along with the ministry’s officials.

This international forum, organized under the patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, is a high-level platform bringing together sector leaders, mining ministers, decision-makers, and experts from around the world to explore prospects for developing the minerals sector and strengthening its pivotal role in supporting economic transformation and achieving sustainable development.

Algeria’s participation in this international event falls within its vision to promote the mining sector, enhance its integration into global value chains, and intensify international cooperation and partnerships, thereby contributing to maximizing the value of national mining resources and supporting sustainable economic development goals.

In this regard, Tafer participated in the ministerial roundtable chaired by the Saudi Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources, Bandar bin Ibrahim Al-Khorayef, during which views were exchanged on ways to enhance international cooperation in mineral resource exploration and exploitation, develop value chains and to encourage responsible and sustainable investment in this strategic sector.

She also participated in the ministerial meeting of member states of the Arab Industrial Development, Standardization and Mining Organization (AIDSMO), which was dedicated to discussing mechanisms to unify Arab efforts, strengthening regional integration in the fields of industry and mining, and supporting joint initiatives aimed at achieving sustainable economic development in Arab countries.

This year’s edition of the Future Minerals Forum focuses on three strategic points, including developing innovative financing models for mineral infrastructure, building capacity in mineral-producing countries through the establishment of networks of centers of excellence in geology, innovation and sustainability, as well as enhancing transparency across supply and manufacturing chains.

The conference features broad participation from more than 100 countries and around 50 international organizations, alongside financial institutions and major mining companies, with the expectation of signing a significant number of memoranda of understanding and strategic agreements, reflecting the growing importance of the minerals sector in global economic and energy transformations.
