VIENNA- Algeria is taking part in the 9th OPEC International Seminar, held on 9-10 July in Vienna, Austria, under the theme “Charting Pathways Together: The Future of Global Energy,” the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Renewable Energy said Wednesday in a communiqué.
The Algerian delegation features key officials including Amine Remini, the ministry’s Director General of Hydrocarbons, ALNAFT President Samir Bekhti, Algerias’ ambassador to Austria Larbi Latroch, and Algeria’s OPEC Permanent Representative Achraf Benhassine. A large delegation from Sonatrach group is also attending the event, headed by Exploration and Production Vice President Farid Djettou and the Group’s Secretary General Abdelkader Zerrouki.
During the seminar, Algeria’s delegation emphasized “the country’s commitment to boosting international dialogue and cooperation on global energy challenges. They stressed the need for a fair, inclusive, and sustainable energy transition that considers developing nations’ unique circumstances while ensuring energy security worldwide.”
The delegation also seized the opportunity to hold bilateral meetings with international energy companies’ executives, in order to strengthen cooperative partnerships in hydrocarbon exploration and production, renewable energy, and green hydrogen development.
The delegation met with representatives from U.S. energy giant Chevron to review progress on implementing the memorandum of understanding signed with Sonatrach for developing Algeria’s hydrocarbon resources.
The Algerian delegation’s members also held talks with the representatives of Spain’s Cepsa, with whom they reinforced the significance of their joint green hydrogen production project and stressed the importance of maintaining coordination moving forward.
Meetings also took place with officials from the Omani company OQ and the Austrian company OMV, in order to examine possibilities for cooperation in the fields of exploration, production, petrochemicals and gas infrastructure development.
For its part, Sonatrach participated in the exhibition organized on the sidelines of the seminar, where it highlighted its technical capabilities, its expertise and its future projects. Its stand generated great interest among participants and visitors, according to the same source.
Algeria’s participation in this international event demonstrates “its concern to continue playing a key role in the global energy market, to work to develop effective and profitable partnerships, and to strengthen its position as a reliable energy supplier, within the framework of a national strategic vision based on energy security, energy transition and resource sustainability,” the statement added.
