Algeria: Over 10 Quintals of Drugs Seized at Moroccan Border

Joint units of the Algerian People’s National Army, in collaboration with various security services, have successfully intercepted attempts to smuggle over 10 quintals of processed cannabis across the border with Morocco. During operations conducted from August 21 to 27, authorities arrested 41 drug traffickers, as reported by the Ministry of National Defense on Wednesday.

The Ministry’s report detailed that ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and address organized crime in all its forms led to these significant results. The statement emphasized the “high level of professionalism, vigilance, and constant readiness of our armed forces throughout the national territory.”

Regarding counter-terrorism initiatives, the statement noted that “detachments of the People’s National Army apprehended five individuals affiliated with terrorist groups during separate operations across the country.”

In the fight against organized crime, and as part of vigorous efforts to combat drug trafficking, joint units of the Algerian People’s National Army, in cooperation with various security services, arrested 41 drug traffickers and thwarted attempts to introduce 10 quintals and 38 kilograms of processed cannabis across the Moroccan border. Additionally, 69 kilograms and 515 grams of cocaine were seized, along with 524,486 narcotic pills.

The report further indicated that in regions such as Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, In Salah, and In Guezzam, detachments of the Army apprehended 506 individuals. They confiscated 19 vehicles, 118 generators, 42 jackhammers, quantities of raw gold mixed with stones, explosives, and equipment used in illegal gold mining operations.

The Algerian Army arrested another 15 individuals and seized six hunting rifles, two automatic pistols, 69,200 liters of fuel, and 34.32 tons of foodstuffs intended for smuggling and speculation during various operations across Algerian territory. the report added.

On another front, coast guards managed to thwart illegal migration attempts involving 80 individuals aboard makeshift boats. Additionally, 873 illegal migrants of various nationalities were detained throughout the country.
