Algeria Opens Embassy in Slovakia to Boost Bilateral Cooperation

Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, presided on Tuesday over the official inauguration ceremony of the Embassy of Algeria in Bratislava.

This comes at the outset of his official visit to the Slovak Republic, as assigned by the Algerian President.

Participating in the ceremony were the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Juraj Blanár; State Secretary at the Slovak Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Marek Eštok; the ambassadors of both countries; members of the diplomatic corps; as well as representatives of the Algerian community residing in Slovakia.

On this occasion, Ahmed Attaf delivered a speech in which he emphasized “the importance of reciprocal diplomatic representation between Algeria and Slovakia, as a means to strengthen the upward momentum witnessed in the relations of friendship, cooperation, and partnership between the two countries, and to elevate them to even higher levels,” the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

He also expressed his satisfaction with the two countries’ shared commitment, at the international level, to upholding the values of peace and justice, working together to preserve the principles of international law and the multilateral system, safeguard the sovereignty and independence of states, reject foreign interference in their internal affairs, and affirm their right to self-determination, according to the statement.

At the bilateral level, Attaf affirmed Algeria’s commitment—through the opening of its embassy in Slovakia—to strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two countries, continuing political consultations, and working to explore new prospects for cooperation in promising and priority economic sectors, particularly agriculture, industry, and new technologies, in addition to deepening the human and cultural ties between the Algerian and Slovak peoples.
