Algeria-Oman: Arkab Highlights Algeria’s Commitment to Supporting Cooperation

ALGIERS, February 12, 2025 – In a meeting with an official delegation from the Sultanate of Oman, Algerian State Minister and Minister of Energy, Mines, and Renewable Energy Mohamed Arkab underscored Algeria’s willingness to support cooperation and partnership projects within his sector, as stated by the ministry.
The discussions between Arkab and the Omani delegation, headed by Abdulsalam bin Mohammed Al Murshidi, President of the Oman Investment Authority (OIA), concentrated on existing partnerships and future opportunities. This visit followed President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s state visit to Oman, which took place from October 28 to 30, 2024.
Attendees at the meeting included the Omani ambassador to Algeria, numerous executive leaders from companies associated with the OIA, Karima Tafer, Secretary of State to the Minister of Energy responsible for Mining, Noureddine Yassaâ, Secretary of State to the Minister of Energy in charge of Renewable Energies, as well as other officials from the ministry.
During their discussions, both parties explored ways to strengthen cooperative relations, particularly in the realms of energy, mining, and renewable energies. They also reviewed existing partnerships between Algerian and Omani firms, including collaboration between Sonatrach Group and Suhail Bahwan Group in the production of petrochemical products and fertilizers such as ammonia and urea.
Additionally, the dialogue emphasized the potential for developing joint projects, such as the fertilizer project based in Arzew (Oran), as well as collaborations between Sonatrach and the companies Abraj and Okio for hydrocarbon exploration and production.
Arkab provided an overview of Algeria’s energy, mining, and renewable energy sectors, detailing the key aspects of the sector development program, which includes new legal and regulatory frameworks designed to attract foreign investments and enhance strategic partnerships.
He highlighted Algeria’s substantial potential for hydrocarbon exploration, field development, and the expansion of new and renewable energy sources, along with the exploitation and processing of mineral resources. He noted that Algeria is committed to modernizing its infrastructure and reinforcing its position as a key energy supplier in international markets.
For his part, the head of the Omani delegation expressed his country’s eagerness to bolster cooperation and investment relations in Algeria, particularly in areas of mutual interest. He remarked that the Sultanate aims to leverage Algeria’s expertise in the energy, mining, and renewable energy sectors.
He emphasized that this cooperation “reflects the deep fraternal ties between the two countries and enhances opportunities for joint investment, aiming for sustainable development,” according to the same source.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to explore investment prospects in Algeria, especially in hydrocarbon exploration and development, marketing crude oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG), as well as in new and renewable energies, including photovoltaic solar and wind power, alongside the advancement of green hydrogen initiatives.
The discussions also underscored the facilities that Algeria offers to investors, emphasizing the importance of enhancing cooperation in the mining sector. This includes exploration, production, exploitation, and processing of mineral resources, as well as the exchange of expertise in these areas.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties reaffirmed their “mutual commitment to developing economic relations between Algeria and the Sultanate of Oman through the enhancement of strategic partnerships and the diversification of mutually beneficial areas of cooperation.”
In this regard, the Minister of State expressed Algeria’s readiness to provide all necessary support to strengthen collaboration, highlighting that “this meeting represents a significant step toward achieving economic integration that fulfills the aspirations of both countries.”
