Algeria-Mauritania Cooperation Sees “Exceptional Leap,” (Mauritanian FM)

ALGIERS, February 6, 2025 – Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug, the Mauritanian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad, on Thursday praised the “exceptional leap” in bilateral cooperation between Algeria and Mauritania in recent years, highlighting the significance of further strengthening this collaboration.
In a statement following his meeting with Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Ould Merzoug conveyed “the greetings of his brother and friend, President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani,” along with a letter from him.
This correspondence reflects the ongoing dialogue between the leaders of both countries regarding matters of mutual interest, including Algerian-Mauritanian cooperation that has experienced significant growth recently, as well as “issues vital to the Arab-Muslim nation and the evolution of international relations,” he clarified.
During their discussion, President Tebboune emphasized “the importance of consultations between the two brotherly nations, united by longstanding ties,” as highlighted by the Mauritanian minister. He added that the President entrusted him with conveying “his greetings to his brother and friend, the President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.”
Furthermore, Ould Merzoug expressed gratitude to President Tebboune for his recent visit to Mauritania during the Continental Conference on Education, Youth, and Employability, commending his vital role at this event.
He also informed President Tebboune of “President El Ghazouani’s desire to deepen bilateral cooperation between Algeria and Mauritania.”
The audience included Director of the Cabinet at the Presidency, Boualem Boualem, and Ahmed Attaf, Minister of State and Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs.
