Algeria: Launch of the First International Mathematics Master

The Algerian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Kamel Baddari, officiated the launch of the first international master’s program in mathematics and the admission of the National Higher School of Mathematics into the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) on Thursday at the “Chahid Abdelhafid-Ihaddaden” scientific and technological hub in western Algiers.
During the event, Baddari highlighted that the introduction of the international master’s program in mathematics is part of ongoing efforts to improve educational quality across various disciplines, particularly in mathematics. He emphasized the importance of enhancing the visibility of universities, which nurture young talents poised to strengthen their international presence.
Moreover, he remarked that the admission of the National Higher School of Mathematics to the ICTP signifies “the beginning of a new phase in the teaching and learning of mathematics in Algeria,” noting that this institution is the eighth to receive such a prestigious international recognition.
The minister also reiterated the sector’s strategic objectives, particularly the preparation for a fourth-generation university, aimed at positioning it as “the driving force of the national economy.” He urged students to “intensify their efforts to adapt to advancements in the field of mathematics.”
At this event, the minister recognized student Merabet Yasser, who earned a silver medal at the International Mathematical Olympiad in Moscow, and toured an exhibition featuring innovative projects, patents, and startup initiatives.
