Algeria Joins Global ’50in5′ Campaign to Develop Public Digital Infrastructure

ALGIERS, April 2, 2026 – The Algerian Ministry of Post and Telecommunications announced on Thursday that Algeria has joined the global “50in5” campaign, as part of its commitment to building a secure, inclusive, and interoperable public digital infrastructure for all citizens, according to a ministry statement.
Participation in this global initiative marks “a new step in the process of transforming digital infrastructure in Algeria,” in line with the vision of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, aimed at “strengthening digital sovereignty, expanding financial inclusion, and ensuring equitable access to public services across all regions of the country,” the statement added.
Through the “50in5” initiative, supported by several partners including the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Algeria joins a group of countries “working together to design, implement, and scale key components of public digital infrastructure, particularly digital identity, digital payments, and data exchange systems, over the next five years.”
Algeria’s public digital infrastructure agenda has already recorded “tangible progress” through several flagship initiatives, including “E-Tawki3”, a national framework for digital identity and electronic signature enabling secure access to online services, as well as Algeria Post, which forms a digital payment ecosystem connecting more than 29 million accounts and 18 million Edahabia cards, thereby strengthening financial inclusion nationwide.
“These initiatives are supported by regional centers for developing digital skills and infrastructure adapted to artificial intelligence, ensuring that young people, women, and rural communities benefit fairly from Algeria’s digital transformation,” the statement added.
Algeria’s accession to this global campaign also represents “an opportunity to share its experience, benefit from international expertise, and contribute to building a digital Africa based on trust, inclusion, and cooperation,” the statement concluded.
