Algeria joins Friends of Peace group initiated in NY to address the Ukrainian crisis

At the invitation of China and Brazil, Algeria participated in a ministerial meeting held in New York on Friday to launch the Friends of Peace group, created by Southern countries to address the Ukrainian crisis.
During this meeting, Algeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Amar Bendjama, expressed Algeria’s support for this comprehensive and constructive initiative aimed at ending the conflict as soon as possible, in line with the principles and objectives of the UN Charter and taking into account the legitimate security concerns of both parties.
Co-chairing the meeting with the Brazilian President’s Special Envoy in New York, Celso Amorim, the Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated that the Friends of Peace group is an open platform that seeks neither competition nor confrontation, but inclusive dialogue.
The ministerial meeting concluded with the adoption of a joint declaration involving 13 countries, in which it was agreed to continue consultations at various levels with all parties.
Additionally, the permanent representatives of the countries that joined the Friends of Peace group were called upon to strengthen common positions in support of international efforts for a lasting peace.
