Algeria, Indonesia Explore Ways to Bolster Cooperation in Agriculture, Fisheries

Algerian Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries Yacine Oualid discussed with Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia Sudaryono on Tuesday, in Algiers, prospects for fostering cooperation and partnership between the two countries in the agriculture and fisheries sector, the Ministry said in a statement.

The meeting took place as part of a visit conducted by a high-level Indonesian delegation to Algeria, comprising Indonesian economic operators headed by the Chairman and CEO of “Pupuk Indonesia” company, Rahmad Pribadi, which specializes in fertilizer production, in the presence of the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Algeria.The two sides discussed prospects for fostering cooperation and partnership between the two countries in the agriculture and fisheries sector, and elevating them to the level of historical and political ties between Algeria and Indonesia, the statement said.

The two sides also discussed the strategy developped by Algeria and Indonesia to strengthen their food security, and highlighted the capacities of both countries in the field of agricultural production, fisheries, aquaculture, and productive investment.

The two parties expressed their readiness to foster cooperation and exchange expertise technology in irrigation and productivity improvement, particularly in the cereals sector, in addition to updating the legal framework and cooperation in the field of fisheries and aquaculture, with the establishment of an action plan in this field.

The two countries agreed to continue the review of legal texts on veterinary and plant health fields to finalize them in ways that foster cooperation and partnership between Algeria and Indonesia in these fields.
