The Algerian Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries, Yacine El-Mahdi Oualid, met Monday with a delegation from the International Finance Corporation (IFC) led by its Vice President for Africa, Etiopis Tafara. During the meeting, both sides discussed ways to strengthen partnership and cooperation, particularly in the field of agricultural investment, the ministry said in a statement.
The meeting provided an opportunity to present Algeria’s agricultural development and modernization strategy, which aims to enhance food security by attracting domestic and foreign investment in production, processing, and exports. Minister Oualid also highlighted the country’s achievements in desert farming and its ongoing transition toward modern and sustainable farming practices.
“The IFC, member of the World Bank Group (WBG), proposed technical and financial support for Algeria’s agricultural projects. This includes initiatives to improve production efficiency, assist exporters in complying with international quality standards to access new markets, and establish an Agri-Tech incubator to support innovative projects in the sector,” the statement added.
Both parties agreed to continue consultations and organize technical workshops to establish a practical partnership framework. This collaboration aims to promote investment and advance sustainable development across Algeria’s agriculture sector.
