
Algeria on Monday opened the consultative meeting of experts on the African Strategic Plan of Action for Counterterrorism, bringing together a select group of specialists and practitioners from various African regions and institutions. The two-day meeting, held in the Algerian capital, underscores Algeria’s continued commitment to strengthening continental coordination in addressing security challenges facing Africa.
Meeting behind closed doors, experts are examining the decision and draft continental strategic plan of action to combat terrorism, alongside the relevant political framework and regional action plans. The discussions aim to assess existing mechanisms and update them in line with current developments, ensuring that Africa’s counterterrorism response remains effective, coherent, and adaptable to evolving threats.
The meeting is also expected to serve as a platform for exchanging expertise and sharing best practices among stakeholders, while promoting a comprehensive approach centered on prevention, addressing the root causes of terrorism, and reinforcing regional and international cooperation. Proceedings are set to conclude with a series of practical recommendations intended to enhance Africa’s collective response and support the efforts of the African Union and its member states in confronting terrorism in all its forms.
