Algeria: Government Reviews Key Reforms on Water Security, Export Competitiveness

ALGIERS – Algerian Prime Minister, Nadir Larbaoui chaired Wednesday a government meeting to discuss presentations on the productive family program, vocational training, water security, 2025 harvest campaign and strengthening the presence of national companies on international markets, said the Algerian Prime Minister’s Office in a statement.

The meeting examined legislation outlining eligibility for the productive family program, which provides financial assistance to targeted groups, particularly rural women and housewives. This initiative aims to enable them to undertake income-generating activities and improve their socioeconomic conditions, aligning with the President of the Republic’s steadfast commitment to preserving the State’s social character.

Government members reviewed a presentation on establishing vocational training excellence centers. These centers are part of a strategy to deliver high-quality vocational training that meets market demands and supports local and national development goals.

In line with the national water security policy set by the President Tebboune, the government discussed local production of membranes for seawater desalination plants. This initiative is a key step toward enhancing Algeria’s strategic autonomy in membrane production, while optimizing costs and supply timelines.

The meeting also addressed preparations for the 2025 harvest campaign, focusing on conditions in the southern provinces and the resources allocated by public authorities to ensure its success. Updates were provided on ongoing preparations for launching the campaign in other provinces.

Finally, to bolster the presence of national companies in international markets and promote exports, the government reviewed a presentation on certification and accreditation processes. The discussion explored prospects for developing the regulatory and operational framework to enhance the competitiveness of Algerian companies and ensure their products meet international quality standards.
