
ALGIERS – Algerian Prime Minister Nadir Larbaoui chaired a government meeting on Tuesday dedicated to continuing the examination of the draft law governing mining activities and to presenting communications on the Bouzina dam project, the management of land border posts, in addition to the progress status of the carbon monoxide detector installation operation, according to a full statement released by the Prime Minister’s office.
“Prime Minister Nadir Larbaoui chaired this Tuesday, 31 December 2024, a government meeting dedicated to continuing the examination of the draft law governing mining activities, in light of the directives of the President of the Republic given during the Council of Ministers held on 26 November 2023, and the results of consultations with various stakeholders, specialists, and experts in the field, with the aim of further enriching this project so as to strengthen the mining sector’s attractiveness to investors and establish ideal conditions for the optimal exploitation and development of mineral resources in the context of the country’s current industrial dynamics.
The government heard a communication about the Bouzina dam project in Batna province, which has been built with a storage capacity of 18 million m3.
The government also reviewed ways to bolster the regulatory framework for land border posts management, in execution of the President of the Republic’s directives aimed at setting up modern and efficient border infrastructure that can effectively handle passenger flow while improving service quality.
Lastly, the government received an update on the progress of the carbon monoxide detector installation operation, launched in line with the instructions of the President of the Republic, which has resulted in the installation of over 9.7 million detectors across 58 provinces to safeguard citizens against carbon monoxide poisoning. This operation will continue into the upcoming year, involving startups and local manufacturers while stepping up awareness campaigns on the safe use of gas appliances.”
