In a move to strengthen Algeria’s international partnerships and expand into European energy markets, Algeria’s Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, Dr. Mourad Agal, received a delegation from Germany’s federal state of Bavaria on Thursday, November 20, 2025. The delegation was led by Tobias Gotthardt, State Secretary at Bavaria’s Ministry of Economic Affairs, Regional Development, and Energy. The meeting, held at the Algerian Ministry of Energy and Renewable Energies headquarters, focused on exploring opportunities for cooperation and partnership between Algeria and Bavaria.
During the meeting, attended by senior officials from the Ministry, Dr. Agal highlighted the long-standing, positive relations between Algeria and Germany and emphasized Algeria’s interest in expanding cooperation across economic sectors, particularly in energy. He noted Algeria’s rich energy mix, which positions the country as a reliable energy supplier to Europe.
Dr. Agal reviewed Algeria’s energy production capacities, spanning conventional and renewable sources, nuclear energy, and green hydrogen. He also outlined key national projects, including the 15,000 MW renewable energy program and the North-South electricity interconnection project, designed to facilitate clean energy exports to Europe, expressing Algeria’s commitment to attracting further German partnerships across economic sectors.
Tobias Gotthardt, in turn, expressed Bavaria’s interest in establishing strong and fruitful economic partnerships with Algeria in the energy sector, citing Europe’s growing energy demand and Germany’s advanced technological capabilities, which could benefit both sides through cooperation. The meeting concluded with an agreement to use this dialogue as a foundation for future cooperation, including organizing exchange sessions and consultations to identify opportunities for partnership and joint development.
