Algeria FM Holds Bilateral Talks in Baghdad with Several Counterparts from Arab Nations

The Algeria Minister of State and Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, engaged in bilateral discussions on Friday in Baghdad with various foreign ministers from Arab nations, prior to his participation as a representative of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune at the upcoming Arab Summit scheduled for Saturday in the Republic of Iraq, according to a statement from the ministry.
Attaf met with Tunisia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Tunisians Abroad, Mohamed Ali Nafti; the Mauritanian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad, Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug; Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdulsalam Abdi Ali; and Djibouti’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdoulkader Houssein Omar, as noted in the statement.
He also held a bilateral discussion with the Russian president’s special envoy for the Middle East and Africa, Mikhail Bogdanov, as indicated in the communiqué.
The meeting between Attaf and his Tunisian counterpart provided an opportunity to “review the positive dynamics characterizing the partnership and complementary relations between the two brotherly countries, underscoring the necessity of continuing joint efforts to give these relations new momentum, particularly in economic domains, in accordance with the high directives of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and his brother, President Kaïs Saïed.”
The two ministers also “discussed, in a spirit of consultation and coordination, key issues on the agenda of the Baghdad Summit and exchanged views on various current situations in their regional neighboring areas.”
Regarding the meeting between the Minister of State and the Mauritanian Foreign Minister, it facilitated “an examination of bilateral efforts aimed at strengthening Algerian-Mauritanian relations and elevating them to the highest levels, consistent with the ambitious goals set by the leaders of both brotherly countries, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani.” They also conducted “in-depth consultations on the developments occurring in their immediate environment.”
Additionally, Minister Ahmed Attaf extended his congratulations to his Somali counterpart on his appointment as head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and agreed on “implementing a series of measures aimed at enhancing Algerian-Somali relations, emphasizing the necessity of ongoing joint coordination within the UN Security Council to address Arab and African issues, particularly within the framework of the African three-member group (A3),” the communiqué adds.
The discussions between the Minister of State and the Djiboutian Foreign Minister offered an opportunity to “renew congratulations to the latter following his appointment and to evaluate efforts to develop bilateral relations and strengthen joint coordination in continental and international forums.”
Furthermore, Ahmed Attaf and the Russian president’s special envoy discussed “the progress made towards enhancing the strategic Algerian-Russian partnership in all its dimensions and addressed several dossiers and regional issues of mutual interest,” the statement concludes.
