Algeria firmly condemns the policies and practices imposed on the Palestinian people

ALGIERS – Algeria on Saturday “strongly condemned” the policies and practices imposed on the Palestinian people in the context of the ongoing genocidal war in Gaza, and called on the international community, particularly the UN Security Council, to assume its responsibilities through collective action to thwart the “Greater Israel” project and to uphold the foundations of the two-state solution as the basis for any just, lasting, and final resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

“In an extremely grave and unprecedented development — the first of its kind in the history of the Palestinian cause and the entire Middle East — the United Nations officially declared a state of famine in the Gaza Strip yesterday,” The statement said.

Algeria emphasized that “what is most deserving of denunciation and outrage” is that this fully-fledged famine is not the result of uncontrollable circumstances, but rather a political choice and the product of planning and orchestration by the Israeli occupation. In this regard, the famine that has been declared is by no means unrelated to the project of forced displacement, nor to the project of re-occupying Gaza, nor to what has become known as the “Greater Israel” project, the source added.

In its capacity as a member of the Security Council, Algeria reaffirms its commitment to continuing its diplomatic efforts aimed at supporting the Palestinian people and pushing toward an end to this unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe. It also pledges to work toward the swift establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital, the statement concluded.
