Algeria Elected to UPU Postal Council

Algeria was elected Thursday as a member of the Postal Operations Council (POC) of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) for the 2026–2029 term, the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications said.
Algeria secured 129 votes out of 157, ranking second among the 11 seats allocated to Africa, the ministry said in a statement.
The election, it added, crowns Algeria’s active contributions within UPU bodies in recent years and its strong presence in international organizations, where it has held senior positions reflecting its commitment to the postal sector.
The ministry stressed that Algeria would continue to leverage its expertise to promote cooperation among member states and support innovation, digitalization, logistics, and financial postal services.
The UPU, a UN specialized agency, holds its Congress every four years to set the strategy and roadmap for the global postal sector.
