Algeria Elected Member of International Gas Union Executive Committee

ALGIERS — Algeria has been elected to the Executive Committee of the International Gas Union (IGU) for 2025-2028 during the 29th World Gas Conference held in Beijing, China, from May 19-23, Sonatrach said Wednesday in a statement.

Djilali Benmohamed, a member of the Algerian Gas Industry Association (AIG) board and director of planning, studies and performance for liquefaction and separation activities at Sonatrach, will represent Algeria on the IGU Executive Committee under Italian presidency.

This election boosts Algeria’s standing in pioneering international organizations and reaffirms its key role in securing gas supplies for the Euro-Mediterranean region.

This body, at the heart of the strategic steering of the organization, oversees all IGU committee work, sets priorities for the three-year term and guides the major developments in the global gas sector.

Endorsed by IGU’s statutory members, this election recognizes the trajectory pursued by the AIG and its proven expertise in advancing the gas sector nationally and internationally, according to the statement.

It also mirrors the new momentum driven by the AIG toward open governance, enhanced stakeholder dialogue and Algeria’s strategic positioning in global energy forums.
