Algeria, Egypt Set Target of 5 Billion USD in Trade

Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli said Wednesday in Cairo that Egypt and Algeria intend to raise their bilateral trade volume to 5 billion USD in the coming years, in line with instructions from the leaders of both countries.

Speaking at a joint press conference with Algerian Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb, held at the end of the 9th session of the Algeria–Egypt High Joint Cooperation Commission, Madbouli stated that “both countries are convinced of the need to elevate the volume of bilateral trade.”

He noted that despite an 18% rise in 2024, reaching about 1 billion USD, “the leaders of both countries have instructed that trade volume be raised to 5 billion USD in the coming years.”

Madbouli called this “a major responsibility for both governments,” adding that they will work to meet the aspirations of both peoples regarding increased trade, particularly in key industrial and development sectors discussed during the commission’s sessions. The priority sectors identified within this framework will be subject to periodic follow-up through joint committees.

He also highlighted “a complete convergence of views” between Egypt and Algeria on several regional issues, especially the Palestinian cause, noting that both sides agreed on the need to work toward implementing the recently adopted UN Security Council plan providing for a ceasefire and the start of Gaza’s reconstruction phase.

In this context, Madbouli praised Algeria for “the major role it played during its tenure on the Security Council,” saying its contribution was “decisive in adopting national positions that served Arab interests.”

On the Libyan file, the Egyptian Prime Minister also noted a shared vision between the two countries, emphasizing the need to “support the intra-Libyan process, away from any foreign interference.”
