Algeria Dominates Liberia 5-1 to Top Group E in CAN 2025 Qualifiers

TIZI-OUZOU – The Algerian soccer team comfortably beat their Liberian counterparts 5-1 (half-time: 2-1), in a match played on Sunday afternoon at the Hocine Aït-Ahmed Stadium in Tizi-Ouzou, under the 6th and final day (Gr.E) of the CAN-2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The visitors opened the scoring in the 6th minute through Dweh Sampson, before Mandi equalized in the 20th minute with a shot from inside the penalty area.

Nine minutes later, captain Riyad Mahrez completed the scoring with a well-placed header, giving his teammates the lead (2-1), a scoreline that sealed the first leg of the match.

In the second half, Bounedjah (65) and Amine Gouiri (74) added two goals. Amoura rounded off the scoring in added time (91st+5).

In the other Group E match, Togo beat Equatorial Guinea 3-0.

Algeria’s 5th win in six games puts them top of the group standings with 16 points, followed by Equatorial Guinea (8 pts), Togo (5 pts) and Liberia (4 pts).

Algeria and Equatorial Guinea will qualify for the final phase of the CAN-2025 (December 21, 2025 – January 18, 2026), alongside the top two teams from the other ten qualifying groups. Only one country will qualify for the final tournament in the host country’s group.
