Algeria Discusses Gaza Crisis with UNRWA Official on Sidelines of IPU Assembly

ALGIERS-The Secretary General of the Algerian People’s National Assembly (Lower House of Parliament), Salim Djalal, held talks in Tashkent (Uzbekistan) with the director of the Europe office of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Marta Lorenzo Rodriguez, on the difficult humanitarian situation the people of Gaza are experiencing, the lower house said Wednesday in a press release.

 

On the sidelines of the 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), Djalal held talks with Marta Lorenzo Rodriguez, during a meeting which addressed “the difficult humanitarian situation experienced by the people of Gaza, following the deterioration of the situation due to the blockade and continuous military escalation,” said the press release.

The two parties discussed “the major challenges facing UNRWA in accomplishing its humanitarian mission, emphasizing in this regard the need to “intensify international efforts to support the Agency’s work and ensure its sustainable financing, being a fundamental pillar in the delivery of aid to Palestinian refugees and in maintaining social stability in the region,” according to the press release.
