Algeria Declares Moroccan Deputy Consul General Persona Non Grata

ALGIERS, March 27, 2025 – On Thursday, the Acting Manager of the Consulate General of the Kingdom of Morocco in Algiers, Algeria, Khalid Chihani, was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for a meeting with the Director General of Protocol Department Mokhtar Amine Khelif. During this meeting, he was informed of the Algerian authorities’ decision to declare the Deputy Consul General of Morocco in Oran persona non grata, as stated in a ministry announcement.

Chihani was advised that “the Algerian authorities have declared Mr. Mohamed Isafiani, the Deputy Consul General of Morocco in Oran, persona non grata, requiring him to leave the national territory within a maximum of 48 hours. This decision is based on the individual’s suspicious behavior, which is incompatible with his duties at the consulate and constitutes a violation of applicable Algerian laws, as well as relevant international laws and customs, particularly the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations,” the statement clarified.
