Algeria Condemns Zionist Crimes, Demands Ceasefire and Action at UN Security Council

Algeria’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Amar Bendjama, addressed the United Nations Security Council during a special session on the Middle East, called at the request of Algeria and Slovenia, including the ongoing situation in Palestine.

Bendjama voiced deep concerns about the continued Zionist military actions in Gaza and Lebanon. He noted that the devastation in Gaza has reached unprecedented levels, with over 42,000 casualties, the majority being women and children, and highlighted the destruction of 60% of Gaza’s infrastructure. He also condemned the targeting of Palestinian civilians, describing the conflict as an outright war on the Palestinian people, rather than a military operation against factions. He also warned that the Zionist occupation’s ultimate goal was to displace Palestinians from their homeland.

Further, Bendjama criticized the Zionist military’s actions in northern Gaza, accusing them of violating international law by threatening to forcibly remove patients, medical personnel, and displaced persons from hospitals. He emphasized that the international community’s silence has only emboldened “Israel”, contributing to a dangerous precedent where humanitarian law is disregarded. Bendjama condemned the blockade on Gaza, particularly its impact on humanitarian aid, noting that only 52 aid trucks entered Gaza per day in September, compared to over 500 before October of the previous year. This blockade, he argued, has resulted in 96% of Gaza’s population facing severe food insecurity, which Algeria’s representative classified as a deliberate war crime.

In conclusion, Bendjama called for an immediate ceasefire and decisive action from the international community. He underlined that continued inaction would only lead to further escalation, threatening stability in the Middle East. Bendjama also highlighted the essential role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), condemning efforts by the Zionist government to dismantle it. He concluded by stating that true security in the region could only be achieved by addressing the Palestinian people’s rights and ending the occupation of Arab lands.
