Algeria Condemns Morocco’s Harmful Practices on Transboundary Waters

Algerian Minister of Water Resources, Taha Derbal, highlighted the negative effects of Morocco’s actions on transboundary surface waters in Western Algeria during a conference in Ljubljana, Slovenia, on Wednesday. He emphasized that Morocco’s destructive practices in the region have caused significant environmental harm, leading to several ecological disasters. These actions, according to Derbal, have not only affected water resources but also the livelihoods of communities that depend on these waters for agriculture and daily needs.
Derbal’s remarks point to the growing concern within Algeria over water management and environmental protection in the region. The minister urged for international cooperation to address the issue, calling on neighboring countries and global organizations to hold Morocco accountable for its environmentally damaging activities. He also stressed the importance of safeguarding natural resources and ensuring the long-term sustainability of water.
