Algeria Calls on Conflicting Parties to Prioritize Dialogue Over Military Escalation in the Middle East

Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, said on Sunday that Algeria renews its call to the conflicting parties to abandon the approach of escalation and military force, and to prioritize dialogue and diplomacy in resolving all disputes, with their diversity, sensitivity, and complexity.
“Out of sincere solidarity, I address at the beginning of this statement my fraternal Arab countries that have been subjected to unjustified and unacceptable Iranian military attacks, in the context of the dangerous military escalation witnessed in the Middle East region,” Attaf said in his address at the regular 165th session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level, held via videoconferencing.
“This position, consistently expressed by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, toward his brothers—their Majesties, Excellencies, and Highnesses of the Arab states affected by the intensity of this escalation—goes beyond temporary or immediate considerations, and falls within the framework of a firm, principled commitment,” he said, adding that it is a commitment that the President has reaffirmed through his keenness to maintain constant and regular communication with his Arab brothers and counterparts during this delicate stage in the history of the Middle East region and of the Arab world as a whole.
In this regard, Attaf noted that the region’s history—both recent and distant—stands as compelling evidence of the devastating consequences of military interventions, underscoring that the use of force has yielded nothing but increased insecurity and instability for all, without exception.
The Algerian minister shed light on Lebanon, as it is subjected to a brutal Israeli military aggression “that seeks to replicate the crimes it has committed—and continues to commit—against the Palestinian people, particularly in Gaza.”
“Our hearts are also with our brothers in Iraq, as they face military attacks from all the conflicting parties in the region,” he said.
Attaf also emphasized that this escalation must not divert attention from the Palestinian cause, as the Palestinian people continue to endure violations by the Israeli occupier, the escalating crimes of its settlers, and the restrictions imposed on humanitarian relief efforts.
“The Palestinian cause remains, through the course of events, the very core of the conflict in the Middle East. Denying the Palestinian people their national rights continues to be the primary cause of regional insecurity and instability. We remain firmly convinced that escaping the cycle of violence, insecurity, and instability in the region will not be possible unless the Palestinian cause receives the attention, care, and follow-up it rightfully deserves.”
