Algeria Calls for Unifying Efforts to Consolidate Continental Organization’s Position

ADDIS ABABA- Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, called on Wednesday, in Addis Ababa, to unify African efforts in order to revitalize the role of the African Union and consolidate its position on the international stage.

In an address at the opening of the AU Executive Council, during the review of the reports of the Permanent Representatives Committee, Attaf emphasized that the critical and volatile situation facing the international relations system compels African countries to accelerate the implementation of mechanisms capable of preserving their common interests.

In this regard, Mr. Attaf called for seizing the opportunity of the African summit, scheduled for February 15 and 16, to renew the institutional building of the Continental Organization and strengthen its human component while enabling it to achieve its ambitious objectives, in order to consolidate the achievements made, address identified shortcomings, and open new perspectives to defend African continent priorities against external threats.

Africa today aspires to establish the foundations of a strong and coherent organization, capable of asserting itself in resolving the crises facing the continent while playing an active role in promoting its economic development, added Attaf.
