Algeria-Burundi: “Shared Will to Revitalize Bilateral Relations” (Attaf)

On Thursday in Bujumbura, Minister of State and Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs Ahmed Attaf affirmed that Algeria and Burundi are united by a “shared political will” to infuse “new dynamism and greater substance” into their bilateral relations, particularly in the realms of trade and investment.

“I would like to express my gratitude to the President of the Republic of Burundi for graciously receiving me today, even as he prepares to preside over an important event related to youth, peace, and security,” Attaf stated to the press following his meeting with President Evariste Ndayishimiye during his official visit as a special envoy of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

Attaf conveyed that he delivered “a written message from his brother, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to the Burundian president, highlighting the shared goal of both Algeria and Burundi to enhance their bilateral relations and better serve the African continent amid the current international turmoil impacting our nations and the global system of international relations.”

In this context, he remarked, “I can assure you that there is a collective determination and political will to inject new energy and deeper substance into these bilateral ties, and we have agreed on specific measures and timelines to achieve this.”

“President Evariste Ndayishimiye and President Abdelmadjid Tebboune share a vision of transforming our two countries into emerging nations, and ultimately into developed nations,” Attaf added.

The Minister of State emphasized that “Algeria and Burundi are committed to revitalizing cooperation between our two countries.” He specifically highlighted “the areas of trade and investment.”

“We will stand alongside our Burundian brothers and sisters to realize our common goals of becoming emerging and developed nations,” Attaf concluded.
