Algeria-Belarus Parliamentary Friendship Group set up in Algiers

ALGIERS – Belarus Parliamentary Friendship Group was set up Wednesday, at the headquarters of the People’s National Assembly, to build bridges of “cooperation and rapprochement” between the two countries in the parliamentary field.

Speaking at the event, the Algerian People’s National Assembly’s Vice-President Ahcene Hani praised the privileged historical relationship between the two countries, noting a great convergence of views on various issues.

Hani highlighted the significance of parliamentary friendship groups, describing them as an ideal platform for building cooperation and closer ties, as well as a practical mechanism for joint deliberation and coordination in various forums to advance both countries’ diplomatic, political, and economic interests.

In this regard, he expressed the commitment of the People’s National Assembly to strengthening and developing these relations, recognizing the important role that parliaments and parliamentary diplomacy play in fostering international relationships. The goal is to coordinate parliamentary positions to protect both countries’ interests and support just causes.

For his part, the ambassador of Belarus to Algeria, Sergei Terentiev, praised the trust-based relationship between the two countries and their mutual respect for each other’s positions. He emphasized Belarus’s desire to enhance cooperation with Algeria across various sectors, particularly in trade, science, technology, and culture.

For her part, deputy Hadjira Abbas, the head of Algeria-Belarus parliamentary friendship group, affirmed that this group is “an intermediary between the two peoples and the two legislative institutions” of the two countries, calling to “strengthen the cooperation relations and the exchanges in various fields to achieve further rapprochement between the two friendly countries.”
