The Deputy Speaker of the Algerian Council of the Nation (Upper House of Parliament) in charge of Foreign Affairs, Rabah Baghali, received, on Tuesday, Deputy Chairman of the National Security Committee of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, president of the working group for cooperation with the Algerian Parliament, Kosygin Ruslan, according to a statement from the council.
Upon the instruction of the Speaker of the Council of the Nation, Azzouz Nasri, Baghali received Kosygin Ruslan at the Council’s headquarters, where the two sides exchanged views on fostering friendship ties between the two countries, given the positive momentum in bilateral relations during this period and the shared political will to elevate them to broader and more effective levels,” said the source.
During the meeting, the statement added, both sides stressed “the importance of matching the significant development in relations between the two countries at the executive level, and the need to support it at the parliamentary level by activating parliamentary diplomacy and fostering consultation and coordination mechanisms between the two legislative bodies, to serve mutual interests and reinforce the cooperation path championed by the leaders of both countries, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.”
In this regard, Baghali highlighted “the pivotal role of parliamentary cooperation in supporting bilateral partnership and deepening its scope,” expressing “Algeria’s appreciation for the level of closeness with Belarus and its hope to crown it with an appropriate mutually beneficial economic partnership.” On this occasion, Baghali praised the recent visit by the President of Belarus to Algeria last December, which coincided with the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries and represented “a turning point in fostering bilateral cooperation.”
The meeting was attended by Vice Chairman of the Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Algerian Community Abroad Committee, Kamel Chaoui, the Rapporteur of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and the Algerian Community Abroad, Ahmed Chitou, the head of the “Algeria-Belarus” Parliamentary Friendship Group at the People’s National Assembly, Hadjira Abbas, and the Council of the Nation’s member Nabil Ourradi.
