
ALGIERS – The Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Energy, Mines and Renewable Energy, Mohamed Arkab received on Thursday, the Commissioner for Energy and Infrastructure of the AU, Lerato Dorothy Mataboge, who is paying a visit to Algeria to participate in Sonatrach’s 12th Scientific and Technical Days (JST 12) which is being held in Oran, the ministry said in a press release.
The meeting took place at the ministry’s headquarters, in the presence of the Secretary of State to the Minister of Energy, in charge of Mines, Karima Bakir Tafer, the Secretary of State in charge of renewable energy to the Minister of Energy, Noureddine Yassaa, the CEO of Sonelgaz, Mourad Adjal, executives from the sector and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs.
During the meeting, the minister presented his congratulations to Mataboge, on the occasion of her election to the post of Commissioner for Energy and Infrastructure of the AU, wishing her full success in the accomplishment of her mission in service of the African continent, in this juncture of global energy transition, added the press release.
The meeting enabled to reaffirm the depth of relations linking Algeria and African countries as well as its axial role within the AU, through its active contribution to continental initiatives aimed at strengthening energy development and infrastructure in the continent, knowing that it houses the official headquarters of the African Energy Commission (AFREC).
It also addressed the prospects of strengthening cooperation between Algeria and the AU Commission for Energy and Infrastructure, through the exchange of expertise, knowledge transfer and training at the level of specialized Institutes under the Algerian energy sector, like the Algerian Petroleum Institute (IAP) and the institutes of Sonelgaz, which will allow to increase the capacities of African human resources and to adapt to the technical and professional challenges of the sector.
For her part, Mataboge greatly appreciated Algeria’s constant commitment and its support for the principles of common African action, praising its efforts for the development of its energy capacities as well as its effective contribution to training, scientific research, and innovation for the benefit of the African continent.
