Algeria, at Forefront of Africa’s Development – Boughali

The Speaker of the Algerian People’s National Assembly (lower house of Parliament), Brahim Boughali, emphasized on Monday, the role Algeria plays in Africa’s development, affirming that the country is dedicating all its resources and infrastructure to support the continent’s integrative projects.

He made these remarks in a speech delivered at the opening of a parliamentary day organized by the Committee on Economic Affairs, Development, Industry, Trade, and Planning, themed: “The Challenge of African Economic Integration: Towards an Effective Partnership.” Boughali further affirmed that Algeria has long been a leading supporter of Africa’s development agenda, noting that this commitment was reinforced by the country hosting the 4th edition of the Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF), as a demonstration of its commitment to the continental integration project.

He further highlighted Algeria’s readiness to host the African Conference on Local Pharmaceutical Production and Health Technologies by the end of this month.

The speaker stated that this conference aims to “strengthen health security and develop the local pharmaceutical industry, in addition to the African conference on start-ups, which underscores Algeria’s role and standing as a hub for entrepreneurial initiatives across the continent.” In this context, Boughali reaffirmed Algeria’s commitment to its African obligations and its determination to continue supporting all initiatives aimed at expanding economic cooperation, strengthening continental partnerships, and establishing a legal and institutional framework that keeps pace with major global shifts.

He also emphasized the commitment of the People’s National Assembly (lower house of Parliament) to boosting African parliamentary cooperation and activating parliamentary diplomacy in support of continental integration efforts, highlighting the pivotal role of African parliaments in establishing a robust legal and institutional framework that translates agreements into effective legislation and implementation mechanisms to advance economic integration.

The Assembly’s speaker emphasized that today’s event reflects Algeria’s political orientation toward strengthening its presence in Africa and deepening continental solidarity.

He noted that it also provides an opportunity to reaffirm collective engagement in the unified Africa project, which contributes to the building of a strong, integrated, and united African economy that is sovereign in its decision-making.” For her part, the Chair of the Assembly’s Committee on Economic Affairs, Samira Barhoum, highlighted the role of this meeting in highlighting the efforts made to achieve major economic objectives and fostering integration ties among African countries. She also highlighted Africa’s vast natural and human resource, and the importance of supporting trade among the continent’s countries.

She stressed that Algeria has sought to strengthen its role as a key player in promoting integration and advancing the vision of Africa as a unified bloc.
