Algeria and Senegal Work to Strengthen Bilateral Relations (Minister)

The Senegalese Minister of Armed Forces, Birame Diop, announced that Algeria and Senegal have committed to further strengthening their bilateral relations across various sectors.

In a statement following his meeting with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune on Thursday, Diop, who serves as an envoy for the Senegalese president, conveyed a “message of friendship and brotherhood” to the Algerian leader, alongside congratulations on his re-election to the highest office in the country.

“During our discussion, we reviewed the key aspects of the relationship between Algeria and Senegal and agreed that it is of very high quality. We emphasized the need to work collaboratively to enhance, diversify, and expand this relationship, particularly in the fields of education and personnel training, as well as in hydrocarbons,” he highlighted, praising Algeria’s expertise in this area.

“We aim to elevate our relationship with Algeria to the highest possible level. This is not overly challenging, as we share many ideals, especially regarding the importance of sovereignty. It is crucial for us to make our own decisions and exercise independent choices,” he asserted, noting that “sovereignty is vital for both the new Senegalese authorities and the Algerian government.”

“Both Algeria and Senegal also place great emphasis on international solidarity, as we have collective interests that can only be safeguarded through international cooperation. Moreover, both nations are committed to African integration, which requires strong institutions equipped with the necessary capabilities and well-trained personnel whose knowledge and vision are essential,” he stated.

“Once again, Algeria and Senegal are two countries dedicated to international solidarity and African integration, and they have resolved to collaborate in ensuring that all African institutions can support their nations in achieving their established goals,” he concluded.
