Algeria and Côte d’Ivoire Sign Broad Cooperation Agreement in Hydrocarbons and Mining

A cooperation agreement between Algeria and Côte d’Ivoire was signed on Saturday in the fields of hydrocarbons and mining, during the working visit of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire’s delegation to Algeria, led by the Minister of Mines, Petroleum, and Energy and current Chair of the African Petroleum Producers Organization (APPO) Ministerial Meeting.

From the Algerian side, the agreement was signed by Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines Mohamed Arkab, and on behalf of Côte d’Ivoire by Minister Mamadou Sangafowa Coulibaly.

The agreement aims to establish an appropriate legal and institutional framework to develop bilateral cooperation by promoting the exchange of expertise and knowledge, strengthening partnerships between relevant institutions and organizations, and supporting joint investment projects across the various segments of the hydrocarbons value chain, as well as in the fields of mineral exploration, extraction, and processing, the Algerian Ministry of Hydrocarbons and Mines said in a statement.

The agreement also covers a wide range of cooperation areas, including the development of natural gas projects, particularly liquefied natural gas (LNG), the enhancement of infrastructure for the transportation and storage of hydrocarbons, and the exchange of expertise in refining, petrochemicals, and petroleum product marketing. Additionally, it includes collaboration in digitalization, industrial safety, environmental protection, and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, the statement said.

Regarding the mining sector, the agreement provides for strengthening cooperation in geological exploration, the development of mining projects, and the valorization of natural resources, aiming to generate added value and support economic diversification.

It also places special emphasis on training, capacity building, and knowledge transfer through the exchange of experts and the organization of joint training programs, particularly via specialized training institutions in both countries, the source added.

To ensure the implementation of this agreement, it was decided to establish a joint working group responsible for monitoring and coordinating cooperation activities and proposing projects of mutual interest, thereby ensuring that the set objectives are realized on the ground.
